Five Commandments

I.K.O Goju Ryu Karate-Do, we adhere to the following Five Commandments.

Should be proud of studying the way of Go-Ju.

Our Karate Organization emphasises the importance of taking pride in studying the Go-Ju way. This pride extends beyond mere technique—it encompasses dedication, respect, and a commitment to continuous learning. As you immerse yourself in the practice, remember that your journey is not just about physical movements; it’s about embodying the spirit of Go-Ju and contributing positively to our karate community.

Should always observe proper decorum

When practising karate, it’s essential to maintain proper decorum. This includes respecting your instructors and fellow practitioners, following the rules of the dojo, and adhering to the principles of karate. Whether you’re performing katas (pre-arranged forms) or sparring, maintaining discipline and etiquette is crucial. Remember that karate is not just about physical techniques; it also emphasizes mental focus, humility, and self-improvement.

Should make it our principle to cultivate fortitude and plain spirit.

When practicing karate, it’s essential to embrace the principles of fortitude and a plain spirit. Fortitude involves mental strength, resilience, and determination. It’s about enduring challenges, setbacks, and pain without losing focus. A plain spirit emphasizes simplicity, humility, and sincerity. By embodying these qualities, karate practitioners not only improve their physical techniques but also develop character and discipline.

Should cultivate a sense of solidarity on the base of mutual support.

In the context of karate, fostering a sense of solidarity is crucial. Practitioners should support one another, creating a community where mutual encouragement and teamwork thrive. Whether it’s during training sessions, competitions, or belt tests, this spirit of unity strengthens both individual growth and the overall karate community.
